5th Grade

What we are doing the week of March 19 - 23,  2018
*Due to the colder weather upon us, students will not be permitted outside
for physical activity time without a winter jacket and pants.  Hoodies do not
suffice for a winter coat.  Thank you for your understanding!
* We have a Kleenex shortage.  If you can send some in, we would
   appreciate it.
* Field trip to the Cathedral and Cincinnati Art Museum on March 28th.  The form and $3.00 bus fare are due by March 20th.

Students will complete their journal entry on Monday and share.  We will also take our spelling pretest on Monday.  We will compete our DEUILI warm-ups and complete our DGP (Daily Grammar Practice) activity, which focuses parts of speech, parts of a sentence, and various language mechanics.  Students will complete a "passage based on-demand" this week, in preparation for KPrep testing.

Social Studies
In social studies we will begin our early American colonies unit by first learning why our first European ancestors left Europe for new opportunities.  This will help us transition into the American Revolution unit later in the month.

In science, we are continuing our study of plants. The vocab foldable is due tomorrow. The quiz will be Thursday (even if we have a snow day on Wednesday). Here’s a link to the quizlet again: https://quizlet.com/77123415/plants-flash-cards/.

This week in reading we will be finishing up our class novel, Letters From Rifka. Once we are finished reading, students will be creating a new cover for the novel. Students will have the final reading MAPS testing next week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Due to focusing on finishing the class novel and MAPS testing next week, students will not get new vocabulary words until after Spring Break!

The book fair will be in the library next week, March 26-29! Students will be given class time to shop on Tuesday. There will also be a late shopping day on Monday evening until 6:00, or you can shop online and get FREE shipping to the school!
